Molly Carlson (CAN) and Constantin Popovici (ROU) win the season opener

The long waiting comes to an end. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2024 was about to kick off in Athens, Greece on May 26th.

2024 is a year of milestones. The men started into their 15th season while the women were entering their 10th season. The second stop in Boston will mark the 100th event! Twelve men and Twelve women launch themselves from heights of 27m and 21m, nearly three times the height of the Olympic platform. The battle for glory in the 2024 season is on and it has never been so exciting.

After 2009 and 2011, the Series returns for the third time to Athens, the largest and capital city of Greece, which also hosted 20 years ago the Olympic Games. Lake Vouliagmeni sets the picturesque backdrop for the long awaited season opener. The heart-shaped lagoon and so-called "Enchanted Lake" was formed 2000 years ago and is associated with many myths and legends. The first of four rounds is being contested directly off the cliff, as all divers leap for the very first time in the famous thermal waters.

In the women´s category, the permanent second athlete of the last season, Molly Carlson (CAN) wins the season opener and takes the leader position in the overall standings. Last year´s champion, Rhiannan Iffland (AUS) can secure the 2nd place, just 0.10 points behind Molly Carlson. Simone Leathead (CAN) completes the podium in Athens.

In the men´s category, Romanian cliff diver Constantin Popovici can build on last year performances and claims the victory with a great dive in the final round (Back 4 Sommersaults 3 Twists). He wins by 28.45 points ahead of second place Carlos Gimeno (ESP). James Lichtenstein (USA) takes the third place after catching up in the final round.
