Today’s stage 5 at the inaugural Nedbank Gravel Burn was another transition stage with deceptive ease in the beginning, riding fast on tar, followed by a long descent and finishing with a brutal gravel summit of Swaershoek Pass to end the stage with a mountain-top finish at 1.616m. A mountain-top finish is very rarely at off-road cycling and with already four stages in the legs stage 5 was a decisive one for the General Classification.
