LAAX OPEN, Europe's most prestigious freestyle contest takes place this weekend in Switzerland. As every four years, it is the last chance to qualify for the Olympic Games. 250 athletes competing in the disciplines Freeski Slopestyle, Snowboard Slopestyle and Snowboard Halfpipe. The first Finals of the weekend went down on Saturday afternoon. Superstar Chinese Eileen Gu (born in the US) wrote history by winning her 20th world cup with just 22 years of age. In the Slopestyle Freeski Men competition Birk Ruud from Norway is celebrating his back 2 back LAAX OPEN win, same as Eileen Gu.
Ailing Eileen Gu (CHN) dominated the women’s final with a strong first run to secure her 20th career World Cup victory, setting a new all-time record in Freeski World Cup history. Marin Hamill (USA) finished second, followed by Lara Wolf (AUT) in third place, while home favorite Mathilde Gremaud placed seventh.
